Does it ever seem that life moves forward at a lighting speed? I wonder sometimes if it’s an American trait or do others in the world think the same. We want everything so fast. I remember when fax machines, remote control televisions, push button phones, and so many time-saving technologies didn’t exist. We had very little fast food restaurants when I was a kid and now look at them everywhere. Our need for fast food is so overwhelming we in America have become just plain fat. We want everything fixed now and have no patience for quality or long time solutions. I’m not writing this to be political however that is even the case. If you can remember, the number “6547” was the Dow Jones industrial average on March 9th. 2009. Look at it today and we think our recovery isn’t fast enough? Just 10 days after that day in history I met my wonderful wife. Even for me these years and months have moved so very fast. I truly think we move or think we should move faster than God really wanted us too. How long has it been since you sat down with your family and enjoyed a meal without the television on in the background? How long has it been since you just went on a stroll through a park to enjoy its beauty rather than jog? A picnic with your partner, mailed a letter or a card rather than an email or e-card? I know how vital in today’s world it is to keep in-touch and be available often at a minutes notice, however perhaps we should consider slowing things down just a little. I remember many years ago my very best friend in High School and his father who was a very nice man and who had worked very hard all his life. A fast paced career for his time and had never spend time enough with his family. He retired, bought a motor home and was about to begin relaxing after all those fast paced years. Just 6 days after retirement, God called him home.

We never know when our time will be over, so let’s make life the best time ever! Set goals, make plans and look forward always. Help others, be in the present, don’t look back. Just never ever forget the beauty and joy of life that surrounds you. As we used to say, take time to smell the roses as they haven’t found a way to do that on your iPad yet.

It’s Saturday morning and today is, “Garage Sale Day!” That’s a big day here in Glen Cove, California. You see, we have over 3000 people in our community and once a year our residents sign up to have their address posted on a map pointing to theirs and all the Garage Sales happening today in Glen Cove. It’s so very cool, people are emptying the garage, neighbors are talking and others are buying. One man’s junk is another man’s treasure, and today no truer statement could be said. It reminds me of the times in my life as a career salesman, when I could not sell enough cars to pay the bills, I would sell the bicycles, the lamps, the furniture and more. My life seemed a constant Garage Sale. My final Garage Sale came and went about 9 years ago and I didn’t get a single dollar. That’s the day and time I cleaned the crap up inside of myself and started anew. Just like Glen Cove every year I stop, clean up the stuff that’s gathered in my life and get rid of it! I guess that’s why this annual event here is so intriguing, it’s not random but rather focused. I Like that!

FollowCraig: Bad Employee!

I’ve just got to be one of the worst employee’s ever! It’s a blessing and credit to those of you who have a job and show up everyday and give it your all! So many of you put up with arrogant or unqualified bosses, your working peers hang out in circles around coffee and cigarette breaks and talk about who knows what? Some of you work so much harder than others and yet you never get appreciated. I know all this as I have tried. You see I was one of those bosses for many, many years. Then one day all that came to an end and I found myself looking for a job, a regular everyday job. Almost no one wanted me and when someone would hire me, I would find myself working for someone like myself. I would always end up trying to run the place. It just sucks! The solution for me seemed to be working for myself, but what to do? I tried all types of businesses “work from home”, route sales. M.L.M., you name it. Then one day a couple of years ago when I was working for a company (Limo Driver), it happened. All I could think was why now when I’m almost 60 do I hear this? You must tell your kids this while they have a chance! This is it; “find something you love to do and the money will follow”. Oh, so simple, so very simple. Today I write this blog because I love sharing my journey with so many others and learning from you all along the way, I am building a business selling products that everyone needs, followcraig.biz and I am finding what I love after all these years! It’s never to late….

FollowCraig: Plastic Plants

Imagine being a teenager pushing a lawnmower as part of your weekly chores? Every week your dad reminds you; Craig “Cut The Grass”! We had rental houses as well so the grass cutting just seemed to never end. I swore that when I got older my house would have plastic plants and artificial grass, never to do this again. Today I’m 60 years old and just finished watering my freshly planted grass and flowers. What happened? So goes life, we get all wrapped up in our daily chores of work, paying the bills, raising children and dreaming of vacations. My life began to move really fast in my late 20’s and early 30’s. I was working all the time, first in the insurance business and later managing automobile dealerships. My ego was so very large back then, you should have seen me. Fancy clothes, gold jewelery, fast cars and big bar tabs. I remember buying a gold watch made from a 20 dollar solid gold coin, I was nuts! Craig was living a plastic life and yes I had plenty of Plastic Plants. Interesting thing about plastic plants and plastic lives, they start to get dusty and often begin to fade. Those little branches just start to drop off much like the plastic life. The family, fades, falls apart and nothing is shiny anymore. One day you wake up and nothing is real and the craving for something different begins to stir. You begin to search and travel some very risky trails. Life on a tightrope without proper balance, so close to falling, so close to hitting the bottom and never getting up. Then it hits you, plastic plants don’t last because they never needed water. Like life if you’re not needed and you don’t love your plastic world just dies. It took some time for me, it didn’t come easy but I found it; that little secret that had eluded me for so many years. Life and plants need watering. Gold watches, fancy cloths and fast cars speed away. Today I’m not a fake, I have faith, I love and am loved. I don’t have a single plastic plant, and every plant in my life gets a healthy dose of water and love. Now that’s the life!
